Bringing Up Bigots

Yesterday I came across a blog detailing much of the same prejudiced and skewed thinking as resides in the pages of James Dobson's "Bringing Up Boys", in which the writer laid out different ways to prevent her children from being "turned gay" by exposure to "gay TV programming" - which she referred to, most originally - as "furthering the homosexual agenda".

She clearly hates gay people and her hate simmers quite clearly on her blog. Well, she can say and think what she likes - after all, it is her blog. I wouldn't stop her from making herself look stupid, it's her right to do so and she does deserve it.

This woman proudly listed some items of questionable authenticity and even relevance in her lead article such as the following:

"While homosexuals are only 1-2% of the population, they account for as many as 40% of all child molestations in the U.S. The Journal of the American Medical Association reported:
  • 50 percent of male AIDS victims reported having sex with an adult male by the age of 16.
  • 20 percent of male AIDS victims had sex with an adult male by age 10."
Having made these statements as though they are concrete fact, she then goes on to say:

"We have 7 and 9 year old boys. We are taking necessary steps to protect them from the homosexual agenda.
  • We made sure they don’t see movies or TV shows that promote this lifestyle.
  • We home school because of the public school promotes a homosexual agenda.
  • We moved to a small rural town where this lifestyle is not accepted."
Wow - such ignorance. She clearly thinks that seeing two men kiss, or two women holding hands on TV will turn her two sons as gay as a picnic basket. Sorry to disappoint her, but even I have to wonder if being gay is really that attractive? I mean, as a broader community, we gay, bi, trans and intersex people are generally on the fringes of society, hated, persecuted and discriminated against - and all because of who we love. How sick is that?

Aside from the obvious, being that this woman and people who "think" like her, are obsessed with what other people do in the privacy of their own lives, it is easy to see the future motives of the conservative movement: censorship and implementation of strict anti-gay laws. Fortunately they have never quite got that far. Not yet.

She then shows her determination by saying:

"We need to do more!"

She provides a link to an article on a right wing fundamentalist site called "traditional values.org" to "prove" that "homosexuals are only 1-2% of the population." Never mind the fact that they quote radical anti-gay groups of the same ilk as Paul Cameron as prime contributors to the article. The only liberal part of the article is the liberal use of myths and claptrap such us the claim that "gay people 'recruit' children into the gay 'lifestyle'" and also through child molestation! She concludes this barrage of "facts" with a bold statement:

"The Christian community can fight them."

This line of thinking prompts one of my own. If there are so few gay people in the world, then how come this woman had to move to "a small rural town" to escape them?

If there are so few gay people in the world, why would public schools promote "an agenda" of such a tiny minority were it not based on truth and fact?

Home school? Is that not the ultimate level of paranoia? I suppose they "home church" too just in case those pesky homosexuals have plied their insidious agenda in the local church? Or why not work at home as well because those darn queers are infiltrating the workplace too - and order groceries through home shopping networks so you don't need to leave the house at all anymore and risk being exposed to that insidious "homosexual agenda"?

Wankers.

How does she intend to "fight" innocent people for wanting civil rights equal to herself? Why, by continuing to spread lies and propaganda that have been used against them for decades now, of course. Despite the proof that gay people are no more prone to being pedophiles than heterosexuals, she callously paints all gay people with that misconception and stereotype. Despite the overwhelming evidence which shows that being gay is an inborn trait and natural and not a "lifestyle choice", she continues to reject fact in favor of fiction.

Despite compassionate religious argument to dissuade reactionary and conservative elements from perpetuating lies and mis-interpretations and mis-understandings of religious scripture against gay people, she takes pride in doing so. Non-religious argument of course, is rejected out of hand as promoting a "secular humanist agenda". And despite the fact that the author knows that as a transsexual woman I am now physically and legally female, she personally referred to me as "only a man wearing a dress". She also made the wild (and inaccurate) assumption that because my name is Christina, that my old male name must have been "Chris". Cute.

Among the idiocy echoed in her articles, was the Dobsonian criticism that the popular children's cartoon "Spongebob Squarepants" is gay. Whoa!

That's not all - the most hate-filled rhetoric is yet to come. Also on her blog she provides links to the following articles, also on the "traditional values.org" site:
  • "Homosexuals Recruit Public School Children (PDF)
  • Homosexual Behavior Fuels AIDS and STD Epidemic (PDF)
  • A Gender Identity Disorder Goes Mainstream (PDF)
  • Homosexual Propaganda Campaign Based on Hitler’s “Big Lie” Technique (PDF)
  • Homosexual Sex = Death from HIV Infection (PDF)
  • Traditional Values Coalition Exposes Homosexual Agenda (PDF)"
Funny, right at the top of the page this five-star bigot started off with "this blog is dedicated to encouraging Moms to have a relationship with God and teach our children His ways." in her sub-heading.

Yeah, right.

If this is the case, then hadn't this person better start living up to these intentions then?

Because all I see in her blog post above is contrary to the heart of a loving God who created gay people as well as her and other straight people - even the ones who are not paranoid delusional and who indulge half-wits such as James Dobson and their idiotic and wholly malicious and destructive diatribe.

In her articles, she attacks the humanity, worthiness and dignity of innocent people, perpetuating hatred and lies and malicious propaganda - and inciting others to follow suit. Does she really think "God's ways" are hate, spite, willful ignorance and spiritual violence? Would Christ provide links to this hateful garbage - or would he delete all of it? Confronted by the sheer hate - and I know I use this word a lot, but there is nothing else that suffices - I have to wonder what kind of God she believes in, and I am sure, by her description, it is the Devil.

Christ is about INclusiveness - and not EXclusiveness as you are preaching here. This is not of the God you claim to serve.

I suggest this person take a long look inside at her own heart before criticizing others and be grateful for her own "deliverance" - if indeed she is so lucky - instead of pointing nasty little fingers at them. The truth is that gay people did not make themselves, but they are born gay due to biological reasons.

Anyone who still, in this age of science and logic, believes otherwise is doing so out of spite and malice - and willful ignorance.

Did you choose (IE make a conscious choice) to be heterosexual? No? Now how about that? Funny how gay people are supposed to have chosen to be "sinners" - and you guys are somehow all spotless and clean and perfectly righteous in pointing fingers at them.

I have long wondered why some people are ugly in appearance, too short, too tall, too fat or born with any number of ailments such as cleft palettes or split lips. It is to show that we did not make ourselves, for if we did, we truly would be to blame for making ourselves gay or transgender as well. The truth is that none of us made ourselves. I did not make myself pansexual or transsexual. Likewise, this person was born heterosexual, but she was not born Christian or a bigot - rather she chose to be those.

You concern yourselves with some fictional "agenda" which is the label you have applied to the legitimate struggle of a social group to attain legal and civil equality in the face of persecution and prejudice - which you oppose for reasons of insignificant religious opinion - but fail to recognize the signs that your own fascist campaign to do so constitutes a far more sinister one.

What makes you so special that you think you deserve to have special rights above them? AND to then commit the ultimate hypocrisy by claiming that it is THEM who are after "special rights"?

Who are you to judge? Who are you to oppose them? Who do you think you are?

I encourage you to do some research on homosexuality - from reputable sources - and to get an education on the topic before waging open war on innocent people - who, like you, only want the rights to freedom, equality and pursuit of happiness.

Reading through this whole article, it soon becomes obvious what it is all about. Not about any scientific or medical reasons why they are bad or "wrong" or a "threat" to society - but why being gay is unacceptable to her on the basis of her own religious misconceptions. It is about religion, her own opinion, and that is all.

People this stupid, ignorant and hateful shouldn't be allowed to reproduce. It lowers the average IQ of the species.

If there is any justice in the world, all her children will have been born gay - but why would God curse gay children with hateful idiots such as this for parents?
