The Dichotomy Of Left vs Right Wing Is Why Modern Democracy Is Failing

Why are democracy and politics such an overwhelming shit-show? Do you want to know? Really? Here, let me tell you why - in one brief summary:

The dichotomy of left vs right in politics itself lies at the very root of the mess. It is in itself a major flaw in modern democracies, because this instantly and irrevocably sets up issues like basic human rights at the center of a perpetual maelstrom, placing human rights and dignity up for grabs for whichever side wins any subsequent elections - and that's precisely why nations like the USA rarely make any substantial or lasting progress on human rights issues, because their entire political system is set up around fighting either for or against who is allowed or supposed to have equality, and the opinions of those who oppose them having those rights or equalities. 

Rather than focusing on real, practical issues that affect everyone in a particular country, like economic or political issues, responding to natural disasters or improving public benefits like free education, healthcare and the like, the entire political systems in these countries are always wrapped up in neverending arguments about the existence of LGBT people, disinformation about transwomen in sport, conspiracy theories about climate change, the misrepresentation of science and history, or fairytales about immigrants stealing jobs, with would-be populists placing these imaginary problems up front and portraying them as major threats to patriotic citizens of whichever country is applicable. 

Further to that, things which have no place in any multicultural pluralistic society are increasingly permitted and even given licence to intervene in society and matters of state - like religion, pushed by zealots, fanatics and domestic terrorists who cannot be satisfied with simply sharing the same table with other races or belief systems, but seem compelled to assume the seat at the head of what should be a round table, to pursue agendas of oppression and destruction against those they have been taught to hate. 

Taken together, all these things represent a toxic cocktail, a vindictive, explosive premise - and until countries like these move beyond their obsessive monochromatic left vs right views, and finally irrevocably codify and entrench protections for fairness, equality and basic human rights for ALL people into laws that cannot be reversed - no matter whom is in charge, things will never move past that obsessive, primitive, unproductive and destructive way of thinking.
